Welcome to Pint of View – Bangalore's first-ever community where classroom-styled lectures meet craft cocktails in pubs and bars.
In our upcoming lecture, we’re bringing you Dr. Shaon Chakrabarti, Assistant Professor at the Simons Centre for the Study of Living Machines at NCBS, Bangalore, who studies how living systems keep time and organize themselves through complex biological processes.
Dr. Chakrabarti will take us into the fascinating world of circadian rhythms—the internal clocks that govern our sleep, energy, mood, and much more. While we tend to think of time as something external, nearly every cell in our body keeps its own time through intricate molecular feedback loops.
Why are some of us early birds while others come alive at night? Why does jet lag hit harder when we travel east? And what actually happens when our internal clocks fall out of sync with the world around us?
From chronotypes and night owls to shift work and jet lag, this lecture explores how our internal timing systems work, why they differ from person to person, and how modern research—including AI—is beginning to measure “body time” itself. The result could reshape how we think about health, performance, and even medicine.
All of this, over a drink in hand at Fandom! 🍻

About the Lecturer
Shaon Chakrabarti is an Assistant Professor at the Simons Centre for the Study of Living Machines at the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore. His research sits at the intersection of physics and biology, focusing on how living systems keep time through molecular feedback loops and complex dynamics. His work explores circadian rhythms, biological organization, and how internal clocks remain robust despite noise and environmental changes, with implications for health and medicine.
About Pint of View
Inspired by the successful Lectures on Tap community in the U.S., Pint of View brings this format to India for the first time. It’s where big ideas meet bar tables, and where you enjoy a drink in hand, walking out with a new way of seeing the world.
