Welcome to Pint of View – Bangalore's first-ever community where classroom-styled lectures meet drinks in pubs and bars.
In our upcoming lecture, we’re bringing you Mayank Kohli, an ecologist who works on grassland ecosystems, pastoralism, and environmental policy in India. His research focuses on open landscapes, particularly trans-Himalayan rangelands, and how climate change, grazing, and land use shape biodiversity and livelihoods.
Mayank will take us into one of India’s most overlooked ecosystems: grasslands. Often dismissed as “empty” or “degraded,” these landscapes are in fact home to remarkable biodiversity — from the Great Indian Bustard and Indian wolf to pastoral communities like the Rabari, Dhangar, and Kuruba who have lived with and shaped these ecosystems for centuries. So why do grasslands remain invisible in our imagination, and misunderstood in policy? Why are they so often replaced, misclassified, or ignored?Join us as we unpack how grasslands actually function, why they matter more than we think, and what we stand to lose if we continue to get them wrong.
All of this, over a drink in hand at The Bangalore Local! 🍻
What to Expect:
- A 60-minute lecture on grassland ecology, pastoralism, and conservation
- 30–45 minutes of interactive Q&A
- One complimentary sober drink from Local Ferment Co.
